Henan Chalco Copper-Clad Steel Grounding Materials
Henan Chalco supplies high-conductivity copper-clad steel grounding materials for lightning protection, earthing systems and industrial electrical projects. Our product range includes copper-clad steel round wire, copper-clad steel strand wire, copper-clad steel grounding rods, copper-clad steel flat wire, hot-dip tinned copper-clad steel flat wire, copper-clad steel fine wire, exothermic welding powder, molds and grounding installation accessories.
For petrochemical plants, coal chemical projects, rail transit, wind power, solar power stations, power communication systems and industrial facilities, grounding materials must provide stable conductivity, mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and reliable long-term buried performance. Henan Chalco helps customers select suitable copper-clad steel products according to conductivity requirements, copper layer thickness, installation environment and project drawings.
Why Choose Henan Chalco Copper-Clad Steel Materials?
Copper-clad steel combines the conductivity and corrosion resistance of copper with the mechanical strength and cost advantage of steel. Compared with pure copper, it helps reduce total material cost. Compared with galvanized steel, it provides better conductivity stability and corrosion resistance in many grounding environments.

Core Product Introduction
Copper-Clad Steel Round Wire
Copper-clad steel round wire is also known as copper-bonded steel round wire, copper-coated round steel or grounding round wire. It is produced by covering a special steel core with T2 copper through a continuous casting process. The copper purity can reach 99.9% or higher. This product provides good conductivity, low resistance, fewer joints, strong corrosion resistance, convenient transportation and easy installation. It is a practical alternative to traditional round steel, angle steel and galvanized grounding materials.
Copper-Clad Steel Strand Wire
Copper-clad steel strand wire is suitable for grounding systems requiring flexibility, field installation convenience and reliable exothermic welding. Each point of the single-side copper layer can be greater than 0.254 mm. The conductivity can reach up to 40%, and annealed soft condition can be supplied for easier site construction.Henan Chalco can supply 3-strand, 7-strand and 19-strand copper-clad steel constructions to balance flexibility, mechanical strength, conductivity and project cost.
Copper-Clad Steel Grounding Rod
Copper-clad steel grounding rods are manufactured by bonding high-purity copper onto a low-carbon steel core. The steel core provides mechanical strength, while the copper layer improves conductivity and corrosion resistance. Copper thickness can be customized from 0.254 mm to 1.0 mm according to project requirements. The threaded ends are rolled after continuous processing, helping the copper layer and steel core remain tightly bonded in the thread area. This makes the rod suitable for driven installation and long-term underground service.
Copper-Clad Steel Flat Wire and Hot-Dip Tinned Flat Wire
Copper-clad steel flat wire provides good conductivity, corrosion resistance and long service life. Compared with round wire, flat wire can offer better equipotential distribution in some grounding systems. It can be installed close to equipment foundations, cement poles, pipe supports, angle steel supports and steel surfaces.Hot-dip tinned copper-clad steel flat wire adds an additional tin protection layer. The tin layer thickness can be not less than 35 μm, helping protect the copper layer, improve corrosion resistance and reduce copper oxidation. It is suitable for offshore, coastal, humid and corrosive environments.
Copper-Clad Steel Fine Wire for Electronic Products
Copper-clad steel fine wire is used for automotive wire harnesses, electronic products and other special conductive applications. The product is made by a cladding process and can be customized by diameter, conductivity grade and mechanical condition.
Production Process
| Process Stage | Process Name | Technical Description |
| Raw material selection | Material selection | Steel core uses Q235A steel and copper uses T2 copper. Steel conforms to GB/T 699 and GB/T 700; copper conforms to GB/T 5246 or GB/T 467. |
| Product specification | Specification control | Minimum copper thickness at any point is not less than 0.254 mm, and copper purity is ≥99.9%. |
| Continuous casting | Continuous casting process | A physical bonding process without strong acid, strong alkali or heavy-metal plating solution. It helps avoid blistering and supports high-temperature and annealing processes. |
| Annealing | Annealing process | Annealing temperature is typically 600–650℃. After annealing, the conductor becomes softer and easier to install. |
| Hot-dip tinning | Hot-dip tinning process | Selected grounding conductors can be hot-dip tinned with tin layer thickness not less than 35 μm to protect the copper layer and improve corrosion resistance. |

Quality Control and Inspection
Grounding materials are often installed underground or exposed to outdoor environments for long periods. Once installed, replacement and repair can be costly. Therefore, pre-delivery inspection and quality control are important for engineering projects.
Henan Chalco can support copper layer surface inspection, copper thickness testing, bending tests, tensile strength tests, bonding tests, resistance testing, current-temperature cycle testing, freeze-thaw testing and neutral salt spray corrosion testing according to project requirements.
| Inspection Item | Purpose |
| Copper layer surface inspection | Checks copper surface quality, coating continuity and visible defects. |
| Copper thickness testing | Verifies whether the copper layer meets project thickness requirements. |
| Bending test | Evaluates flexibility and copper-to-steel bonding during deformation. |
| Tensile strength test | Confirms mechanical strength for transportation, installation and service use. |
| Bonding test | Checks whether the copper layer and steel core remain firmly combined. |
| DC resistance testing | Confirms electrical resistance and conductivity performance. |
| Current-temperature cycle testing | Evaluates performance stability under current and temperature changes. |
| Freeze-thaw testing | Checks performance under low-temperature and temperature cycling environments. |
| Neutral salt spray corrosion testing | Evaluates corrosion resistance in humid or corrosive environments. |

How to Select the Right Copper-Clad Steel Grounding Product
Different projects have different grounding designs, soil conditions, corrosion levels, installation methods and electrical requirements. Product selection should not be based only on price or diameter. Conductivity, copper layer thickness, cross-sectional area, tensile strength, connection method and service environment should also be considered.
For large buried grounding grids, copper-clad steel round wire or strand wire can be selected. For equipment foundations, grounding down conductors and surface-mounted connections, copper-clad steel flat wire is more suitable. For vertical grounding electrodes and deep buried grounding systems, copper-clad steel grounding rods are commonly used. For offshore, coastal, high-humidity or corrosive environments, hot-dip tinned copper-clad steel flat wire or higher corrosion protection solutions can be considered.
