 1. Aluminum clad steel plates are often subjected to high temperatures and prolonged use (e.g. in electrolytic smelting plants using them as anodes and cathodes). Under these conditions, FeAl3 and Fe3 Al5 intermetallic compounds are produced at the Al-steel interface, which will reduce the bonding strength. Therefore, thin nickel plate is used as the intermediate layer to reduce the intermediate compound at the interface and increase the strength of the welded joint. In the aluminum nickel steel joint, the strength characteristics are still high enough after 515 ℃ 8h heat treatment. In this case, it is still reliable to use this joint for a long time when working below 400 ℃.
The aluminum steel composite material used for cold storage is mainly used for pipe joints of compressors.
 
Aluminum alloy-aluminum-titanium-nickel-stainless steel five-layer composite plates for ultra-low temperature are used as liquid ammonia, liquid oxygen, liquid hydrogen, liquid nitrogen and liquefied natural gas storage tanks and pipes. Their strength and thermal stability are even and good. Explosive composite of dissimilar metals is an effective means to give full play to the properties of coated materials, and it is widely used.
 
2. when manufacturing high-voltage cables and large cross-section busbars, aluminum and its alloys are commonly used instead of copper. It is of great significance to use explosive welding to connect the bus bar. This method has good economy and high productivity, does not require special preparation of the surface, and guarantees a stable bonding quality, as well as the same strength as the matrix material. The resistance of aluminum low carbon steel composite interface is close to zero and used as bus bar. Therefore, aluminum steel joints are used in electrolytic aluminum plants.
 
A large number of Aluminum clad steel plates welded by explosive welding have been used in Guangzhou Metro Lines 4 and 5 using linear motor vehicle technology.

Because steel has high rigidity, high brittleness and high melting point, and aluminum has excellent conductivity, thermal conductivity, good corrosion resistance, low density and so on, the excellent characteristics of the two metals can be fully utilized after the composite.
